What the report tells you
A phone report parses the number into its country and national format, confirms it is a number that could exist, and identifies the carrier and the type of line behind it: mobile, fixed, premium rate or voice over IP. It also links straight through to the messaging apps where the number may be registered, so you can see whether anyone is actually behind it.
Why VoIP changes the picture
A mobile number ties loosely to a person, through a contract or a prepaid registration. A VoIP number ties to nothing. It can be bought in bulk, in any country, and thrown away after one campaign, which makes it the default tool for scam calls and fake marketplace sellers. Seeing that a supposedly local seller is calling from a VoIP range is often the whole answer.
When to run one
When a caller claims to be from a bank or a delivery company, when a marketplace seller moves the conversation to WhatsApp, or when you are checking whether contact details on an invoice belong to the company they claim.
